Charlie Wi shot a course record 61 at Monterey Peninsula Country Club, to share opening lead



Flirting with a 59, Charlie Wi settled for 61 and a share of the first round lead at the AT&T. The Cal grad and 1995 All-American won the State Amateur in his very first tournament in 1990 at Pebble Beach. He had the magic going again Thursday in setting a course record on the Shore Course at MPCC. Winless on the PGA Tour, Wi, of South Korean decent led an Asian invasion as Danny Lee, born in Seoul as well also fired a 9 under par round joining 2-time AT&T winner Dustin Johnson atop the leader board. Friday, Wi rotates to Pebble Beach where he captured his first title of any kind...The California State Amateur in 1990 at age 17.
