John Cook defends his Champions Tour win at Harding for Schwab Cup Finale

Mentored by Ken Venturi while a young amateur, John Cook is now paying it forward.
Cook was the #1 amateur in the World at age 19...just like UCLA's Patrick Cantlay. While at Ohio State, Cook captured the U.S. amateur...something the supremely talented Cantlay has yet to accomplish. Imparting his wisdom rather than swing advise, John Cook has taken Cantlay under his wing. President's Cup Captain Fred Couples, also playing this week at Harding Park in San Francisco has named Cook as an extra assistant along with Jay Haas for the upcoming U.S. defense of the Cup in Australia, captured here at Harding two years ago. John Cook has long been one of Tiger Wood's best buddies on Tour, and with Couples naming Tiger to the team despite his world ranking slipping to 50th, the presence of Cook is hoped to be a catalyst toward Woods regaining his winning form.
