The U.S. Open is coming to Pebble Beach. Today the media got a preview and a chance to play the famed links. Wind, Rain and Radio personalities.

I get to play Pebble Beach once per decade. Always at the media day, as the USGA and the brass at Pebble open the links following a press conference. Before Watson's historic chip on #17 to edge Nicklaus in 1982, Tom Kite's windblown win in 1992 and Tiger's 15 stroke route in 2000...members of the media who cover the event get rewarded a round on the famed links. Defending Champion Lucas Glover was on screen via Skype, but it didn't work. The assembled panel of Championship organizers spoke about the greens being smaller than any Open Championship venue, how the stimpmeter will be in the 11-12.5 range, how Arnold Palmer helped in course improvements since 2002, why there will be more sand shots than ever for this championship, and why officials will wait for wind forecasts before setting Tee positions.
