Wacky "Crosby Weather" has forced a lengthy delay for the start of Sunday's final round at Pebble Beach. AT&T seems destined for cancellation
Upon arrival in Del Monte Forest this morning, the rain was constant and wind howling. Things have only gotten worse. The first word was a delay to 9:45 for Sunday's final round. Then it became 10:45am. Moments later, the word was amateurs who made the cut were out, and now the latest is an attempted 1:45pm tee time on holes 1 and 10 with threesomes going out. It all seems like prolonging the inevitable. CBS is scheduled to telecast in less than an hour, but has no chance of following the tournament to conclusion if indeed it does resume. CBS TV Golf anchor Jim Nance had some time to kill this morning and visited with KNBR-680 in the press room. His comments above were not encouraging. Meanwhile, it continues to rain and the wind remains relentless. Standing water on greens and fairways continue to accumulate...and even if the fallen trees and debris can be removed, Pebble Beach remains a mess. Chances appear to be slim and none that any golf will be played today, and with the forecast dire for the next few days, the PGA has really only two options. Declare the event a 54 hole tournament and award the Dustin Johnson his $1million first place check and waterford crystal, or postpone the final round to the summer, which seems less likely. We'll wait around until the decision is official, but it would appear the AT&T at Pebble Beach for 2009 is over.
Wild weather wreaks havoc at Pebble Beach. Final round delayed with fallen tree on #3, and wind whipping debris all over the course. 3 hour delay.
Rain is not a factor here at Pebble Beach, but the wind has taken center stage. Course maintenance workers are clearing fallen trees on #3 and gusts up to 50mph have
forced postponement of the start till 10:45 this morning to clear obstacles all over the course. The wacky weather means a 3 hour delay, and a total snafu for CBS telecast plans. Meanwhile, the sun is actually shining at 9am, but the putting green and driving range are vacant. Another delay in the start would almost certainly pull the plug on Sunday's final round, and most likely will result in a 54 tournament whose winner would be Dustin Johnson with a 4 shot lead over Mike Weir when play was scheduled to begin this morning.

9:30 Saturday nite and no rain at Pebble. Forecasters have been wrong all week. Dustin Johnson leads by 4 and will go out last with Mike Weir
The tournament seemed doomed by weather forecasters alerting fans to beware. The prediction of rain and wind hung over the tournament. It hailed for time during the night this week and has rained consistently each overnight, but the AT&T was not impacted. The economy, combined with the threat of "Crosby Weather" has kept people away. Attendance is down over 25% and the Pebble Beach Company has increased purses and accelerated charity donations. With sponsorship and patronage down, something's got to give. Meanwhile, back at the tournament which may go 72 consecutive holes afterall finds a southern man...24 old Dustin Johnson setting the pace at 15 underpar. The long hitting Carolinian fired a 67 Saturday, while Retief Goosen saw his lead of two fall back to 5 behind the leader. Canadian Mike Wier sits alone 4 behind and will have the experience as a Masters Champion and 7 other titles matched with a winner of one in his rookie season in 2008. Others in the hunt include Mark Calcavecchia and Bob Estes 6 behind. Players needed to be 1 under par to make the cut. 80 broke par and will play on Sunday. Last year's Player of the year Padraig Harrington was not one of them. The Pro-Am finds celebrities Bill Murray, Huey Lewis, Carson Daly, George Lopez and other marquee names OUT, but locals Rueben Richards Jr. a 1 handicap amateur Geoff Couch who lives down the block in Pebble Beach and recorded a hole in one yesterday will play another day. Music maker Kenny G., a scratch golfer in the field will tee it up Sunday as well.
Mike Weir was 3 under on his last 5 holes Saturday, and moved into great position to challenge leader Dustin Johnson in Sunday's final round at Pebble
Mike Weir has always played well at Pebble Beach in the AT&T, but has never visited the winner's circle. The 8 time PGA tour winner knows he's right where he needs to be, trailing Dustin Johnson, a one time tour winner in his second season...with his experiences at Pebble and years of battles on the Tour, Weir has a great advantage over the 24 year old in the final group, despite trailing by 4 shots when they tee it up Sunday. Nasty weather is in the forecast, so the Canadian Weir is hoping conditions will be playable for the opportunity to overtake the long hitting youngster from South Carolina.
Dustin Johnson has seized control of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am by firing a 5 under 67 to claim a 4 shot lead heading into the final round at the AT&T
24 year old South Carolinian Dustin Johnson has gained control of the tournament. Starting the day 2 behind Retief Goosen, the long hitting Johnson fired a 5 under 67 in front of a gallery of a couple dozen at Poppy Hills. Virtually all the golf fans followed the pros and big name celebrities at Pebble Beach today, so Johnson played under the radar and shot his third round in the 60's. At 15 under par 201, Dustin owns a 4 shot cushion over former Master's Champion Mike Weir and 5 ahead of Goosen who faltered with a 74. The soft spoken Johnson may not even have to play Sunday to win the tournament, as brutal weather is expected overnight and into the day with high winds and up to 2 inches of rain predicted. Of course dire weather forecasts have been daily here at Pebble Beach, but somehow, the nightly wild weather which has included several hail storms has yielded to very playable conditions as Johnson's 15 underpar score illustrates. In 1996 the tournament was cancelled due to rain. On 6 other occasions, the tournament was trimmed to 54 holes, and on one of those events, Phil Mickelson won the AT&T in August. With 3 complete rounds in the books, it becomes an official event if weather gets in the way, and meteorologists are calling for 5 more days of virtually constant wet weather. Officials will try to get Sunday's round in, but if it's determined to be unplayable Sunday, chances are Dustin Johnson will win the tournament without having to take another shot
Early scenes from Pebble Beach Saturday
The wind blew toward the end of round 3, but overall it was a sunny day and feeling best is Dustin Johnson who owns a 5 shot lead over Retief Goosen and Mike Wier still on course.

Two time US Open Champion Retief Goosen of South Africa scorched Pebble Beach with an 8 under 64, grabbing a 2 shot lead at Pebble Beach.
Retief Goosen appears to be in top form again after seeing his World ranking slip to 46th, firing an 8 under par 64 at Pebble Beach today. The South African with a pair of US Open titles among his 6 PGA tour wins owns a 2 shot lead over Dustin Johnson who was co-leader after round one, and 4 strokes clear of Robert Garrigus, Charley Hoffman, Mark Calcavecchia and Mike Weir. At 12 under 132, Goosen, who is partnered with Peter Ueberroth shifts to Spyglass Hill for Saturday's round 3 weather permitting. The courses are damp from overnight rains all week, but play during the day has not been impacted.
Phil Mickelson, Bill Murray and other marquee pros and amateurs take their shots in round two at Poppy Hills during ATT
Round two is completing in glorious sunshine despite the dire weather forecasts throughout AT&T week at Pebble. Predictions for heavy rain Saturday will continue to keep the crowds down,(along with the economy) but Friday's round was played in fine conditions with lift, clean and place rules in effect. Most of the marquee celebrities and pros played at Poppy Hills today, and we captured some of the action.

Dustin Johnson holed out on his first hole and rode the wave to the lead at Pebble Beach in round one.
Just like the man he shares the opening round lead with...Dustin Johnson is a long hitter. Both he and co-leader Robert Garrigus fired 7 under par 65's and took advantage of their length on a day with no roll. Lift, clean and place rules were in effect which gave the longest hitters an advantage, and Johnson took advantage. A winner in his rookie season last year, Dustin moves to Spyglass on Friday where Garrigus played today in posting his 65
Robert Garrigus leads the AT&T with an opening 7 under par 65 at Spyglass Hill in damp conditions
Long hitting Robert Garrigus used his length on long Spyglass Hill to emerge atop the leaderboard after round one of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The 32 year old who had his sights on a pro baseball career before blowing out his pitching arm, finished eagle-birdie-birdie in firing his 65. Perhaps only Bubba Watson launches the ball further than Garrigus on the PGA tour. With no roll out there today, Robert took advantage of his long ball flite and the lift, clean and place rules in going low at 7 underpar. Just finishing his round, one time tour player Dustin Johnson has joined Garrigus in the lead.
Tour rookie Bill Lunde stands two shotts back after round one of AT&T at Pebble Beach
With the opening round almost complete, Rich Beam and Steve Elkington had the lead until Rich Garrigus finished eagle-birdie-birdie to fire a 7 under 65. A couple shots off the pace is 33 year old Bill Lunde from Las Vegas

Wednesday at Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley, Bobby shared his ideas with gathered media, and announced his plans to teach his methods.

Bob Murphy get enshrined into California Golf Writers Hall of Fame. Golf's local legend is honored at Spainish Bay. "Murph"
Year after year, Bob Murphy hosts the California Golf Writers dinner...handles duties in the pre-tournament shootouts at Pebble Beach...dates back to when Bing Crosby brought the tournament to Monterey, and was the last invitee ever by Bing before dying on a golf course in Spain. Bob Murphy has history. He's lived it from the time of being a star pitcher on Stanford's baseball team more than 50 years ago. All the pros and celebrities at the annual AT&T are fair game for the wise cracking Murphy. If there's a joke to be found he'll find it. Bob is a treasure for the golf and athletic communities of Northern California. Bob Murphy's induction into Golf Writer's Hall of Fame for California was a natural for the 50th anniversary banquet.
CBS's Jim Nance and Nick Faldo following a day at Cypress Point, honor players of the year and show video of last years highlights at Pebble Beach
Peyton Manning was there. As was local news anchor Olga Ospina. All the talking heads on CBS's golf coverage with the exception of Bobby Clampett who is involved in his new book and teaching technique "The Impact Zone" The cocktails flowed, sushi consumed, and apitizers for all.
CBS celebrates AT&T at Pebble Beach.
It's a Wednesday ritual for CBS to introduce PGA commissioner Tim Finchem on tournament eve before handing the telecast to the USA network. It allowed the talking heads to play Cypress Point today before the rains came. The rain squalls are on and off tonight, so who knows what weather lurks for the start of round one on Thursday.
